Painting Contractors
Vernon trusts.
Compare recorded review evidence, business details and examples of similar work. Describe the same scope to each contractor.
A shortlist based on recorded ratings and review volume. Confirm current reviews and suitability before hiring.
Almost the entire quality difference between painting quotes lives in preparation, which is also the part that is invisible in the finished job and the easiest place to cut. Two quotes for the same house can differ by thousands purely because one includes washing, filling, sanding, caulking and priming and the other includes opening a can. Exterior work in the Okanagan takes heavy UV, so product choice and film thickness matter more here than in milder coastal climates.
How to choose painting contractors in Vernon
What to check before you hire, whichever company you pick.
- 01
Compare preparation line by line, not the total
Ask each quote to spell out washing, scraping, filling, sanding, caulking, priming and the number of finish coats. Most price gaps disappear once you do.
- 02
Pin down the actual product and sheen
'Premium paint' is not a specification. Get the manufacturer, line and sheen in writing. The difference between a builder-grade and a top-line exterior product is years of service life.
- 03
Confirm WorkSafeBC coverage for anything above ground
Exterior and stairwell work means ladders and staging. Clearance is worth checking for the same liability reason it matters on a roof.
- 04
Agree what 'two coats' means on colour changes
Going dramatically lighter or darker often needs primer plus two coats to look right. Settle this before work starts, not when the first coat looks patchy.
Walk away if you see
- A per-square-foot price with no scope attached
- No mention of surface prep anywhere in the quote
- Large upfront deposits before any materials arrive

How Locals Voting works
- Anyone can vote with a free account. Each account gets one vote per list, and votes cannot be changed or bought.
- Rank is by total votes. Arrows compare with the standings a week ago. The Community Favourite is the business that gains the most new votes in a calendar month (Pacific time), with at least 3 votes.
- Business owners may vote for their own business once, like anyone else, and may invite customers and friends. Owner votes are shown on each business.
- Votes are community support on Okanagan Trade Directory. They are not customer reviews, are not verified purchases, and do not affect search engines or review sites.
- Please never offer discounts, gifts or anything else in exchange for votes or reviews. Votes that break these rules may be removed.

How this list is ordered
Recorded star ratings and review volume are combined using a weighted average with 25 reviews at 4.0 stars as a common starting point. This reduces the advantage of a very small perfect-rating sample. Where a dated, reviewed sentiment sample is available, its positive share adds a small adjustment of at most one tenth of a star, scaled to sample size. Missing sentiment is not treated as negative feedback.
Featured payments do not change this numbered order. Stored review figures can differ from the original platform. A position is not a credential check or a guarantee of workmanship.
