City records show $52.8 million in declared construction value and 38 new homes in August, led by a $19.5 million institutional building on Lapointe Drive and a $7.2 million industrial building.

The City of Kelowna issued 63 building permits in August 2026, according to its public permit data. Together they carry $52.8 million in declared construction value and create 38 new homes, counted from the unit numbers the City publishes on each permit.

That is seven more permits than in July, and it ties June as the second-busiest month of 2026 so far, behind May's 68. In declared value, August ranks third this year, after March ($93.0 million) and June ($69.4 million).

Two non-residential permits make up half the value

The largest permit of the month, issued August 6, is for a new institutional building at 5950 Lapointe Dr, with a declared construction value of $19.5 million. The City's record lists 5,175.6 square metres of floor space but does not describe how the building will be used. See the permit record.

The second-largest is a new one-storey industrial building at 270 Hiram Walker Ct, issued August 17 with a declared value of $7.2 million. See the permit record.

Together those two permits account for $26.7 million, just over half of the month's declared value. Both are on OKTD's list of large permits with no public description. If you know what is planned, you can send a tip there.

Where the 38 new homes come from

  • Single-family houses: 10 new houses, plus three new houses built with a secondary suite (six homes). The largest residential permit, on Stewart Rd W, declares $4.0 million for a two-storey house.
  • Small infill buildings: on Wardlaw Ave, a fourplex and a duplex add six homes. On Fuller Ave, two triplexes add six. On Morrison Ave, two duplexes add four.
  • Suites in existing homes: six permits add a suite to an existing house or duplex.

That makes 32 homes in new buildings and six in existing ones. No apartment building permit was issued in August.

Renovations, pools and the rest

Beyond the 21 permits for new buildings, 22 permits cover renovations and additions (including the six suite permits), 10 are for swimming pools (nine in-ground, one above-ground), nine are for garages, accessory and farm buildings, and one is for a woodstove.

September so far

The City's public data currently runs to September 23. By that date it shows 50 permits issued in September, with $19.3 million in declared value and 20 new homes. The largest is a new two-storey industrial building at 351 Loyd Rd, with a declared value of $4.5 million, issued September 4. September's figures will be incomplete until the City publishes its next update. See September so far.

About this data

A permit is approval to build, not proof that work has started. Values are the declared construction value on each permit, not sale prices or final costs. For homes, OKTD shows the street name only. The City of Kelowna updates its public permit data about once a month, so the newest weeks arrive late.
