The City’s latest update identifies road, utility and waterfront work continuing into the fall. A spring pathway reopening is already behind it; other projects have longer timelines.

Kelowna crews are heading into the final stretch of the construction season, with road connections, a major water main and waterfront improvements among the work still advancing.

The City’s October 22 update puts its 2026 transportation, utility and parks program at more than $154 million across over 135 projects. That is an annual program total, not a bill for one road or park.

What is still being built

The update names the Hollywood Road extension, the Weddell/Clement transmission main and City Park work involving a swim venue, changeroom and bike path. It also identifies enhancements at Sails Plaza and Kerry Park.

The City says early fall gives crews a window for paving, concrete, landscaping and other work that becomes harder in winter. Being included in that push does not mean every project will open this year.

Hollywood Road has a longer timeline

The project page describes a new 2.1-kilometre connection between Sexsmith Road and John Hindle Drive. Plans include one traffic lane in each direction, turning lanes where needed, bike lanes, sidewalk connections and changes at Academy Way and Appaloosa Road.

The page lists the project as under construction, with an estimated completion in spring 2028. It is one phase of a wider plan for Hollywood Road, rather than the completion of the entire corridor.

Its cost information needs clarification: the page’s summary lists $30 million, while its funding section refers to $35 million. Those conflicting figures alone do not establish a cost overrun.

A completed phase at City Park

The pathway between the Cold Sands washroom and the Bernard Avenue entrance reopened on May 15. That work separated walking and cycling routes and included waterfront-access and shoreline improvements.

The May reopening and the additional work named in this week’s update are different stages. The earlier ribbon-cutting should not be read as confirmation that the swim venue or every remaining park improvement is finished.

Before travelling through a work area

Check the City’s Road Report for current closures and detours. Project timelines describe the overall build; traffic arrangements can change during individual construction stages.

This report is based on the City’s published update and project records reviewed October 23. The conflicting Hollywood Road cost figures remain unresolved; no completion date has been inferred for projects that do not have one in those sources.
