Start with the plan Vernon already adopted
Vernon’s project page confirms adoption of its Transportation Plan on November 24, 2025, followed by the Official Community Plan on December 15. The transportation adoption materials include a Year 1–5 implementation timeline. Residents are not starting from a blank sheet, and a petition should not pretend that no schedule exists.
Independent reporting by Vernon Matters described roughly 170 projects in the plan and identified the Road Safety Toolkit, funding work and initial design as early priorities. Those reports describe the plan and intended work. They do not establish which individual projects are complete as of October 2026.
A plan and a progress report answer different questions
A long-range document explains the direction of travel. A first-year scorecard would show what has actually moved: completed tasks, approved spending, work still in design and items with revised dates. Using the same project names as the adopted timeline would help residents compare the commitment with the update.
It would also make room for a sensible explanation of changes. Funding decisions, design requirements and coordination can alter delivery. A revised date is more useful when the reason and next milestone are visible. Without that connection, residents can struggle to distinguish a cancelled idea from work simply waiting for its next stage.
The request: show the first year in one readable place
This petition asks Vernon City Council and the Transportation Division to publish a first-year progress table by January 31, 2027, tied to the existing implementation timeline. It asks for completed work, approved spending, delayed items and revised dates, plus a clear route for residents to submit locations they believe need safety attention.
We are not declaring a particular road project overdue or proposing a substitute engineering priority list. If an equivalent scorecard already exists, it should be linked prominently and used as the starting point. The purpose is to give residents a practical way to follow delivery and contribute specific local information.
